 This summer was a busy one here at the Studio!
Emma and her husband Rob, had a lovely day to be married in our backyard in June. Although the house and gardens looked nice enough, our big garage door looked a bit, ummm - tattered? Connor flew to the rescue and created this gorgeous mural - I absolutely adore it! It’s definitely a unique art niche! If you are interested in a custom garage door of your own, let us know.    Happy Spring!
Even though its the season of mud - spring always feels so optimistic to me... We are finally (mostly?) over those cold days and finally (mostly?) done with snow! The bunnies in Emmas house and the wild bunnies outside of the studio, all seem to feel some spring excitement in the air. I am working on some new bunny images at the moment, and am excited to reveal that I am working on an oracle/affirmation deck specifically for creative people. And I'm fairly certain that a bunny or two will make their appearances there... This year for the first time ever, we tapped the Maple trees in our yard, and had the experience of collecting sap and boiling it down to delicious magical syrup. Whether you celebrate Easter, or just get out to visit the trees, whatever you do this holiday weekend, I hope it is springtime magical!  Welcome to 2022 - the Year of the Black Water Tiger!
It starts from February 1st, 2022, and ends on January 21st, 2023. A Water Tiger year occurs every 60 years. Tiger energy apparently means that this is a good year for education and learning. I'm putting that momentum to good use - developing some online art workshops and some creative retreats. With everyone still limiting their in person contacts because of Covid, I think that some video and "live online" meetups might be a great way to stay connected and learn some new skills. Is it happy? It's definitely new.... Hey - 2019 is the Year of The Pig! That sounds like fun! On the personal side, I'm very pleased to see the back side of 2018 - it was a year of chaos and a lot of loss - but I'm optimistic that 2019 will be better... How do you cope with grief and loss? For me, I have to channel it into creativity. Whether you paint, doodle, make music, write poetry, carve, scribble or ??? - it's important and soul healing to create. As you probably already know (since you are here!), my arty side is expressed through On Dragon Wings Studio. We are a small family art collective- mostly me and Emma, but we are slowly bringing Connor in as well. (You should see his oil paintings - SO beautiful!) It is a foster based rescue, so Emma and Connor grew up with an ever changing array of creatures in our house. Now that they are in their own homes, they are continuing to foster and care for creatures, and so most of our art is inspired by and features creatures that we have met, cared for, and loved. Shelly and Emma OnDragonWingsStudio  Well, with spring just around the corner (I hope!), so we have been dreaming of flowers and baby wild creatures, sunshine on sleeping kitties, dogs happy to run in the grass, and farmed animals blinking in the warm puddles of light... In a practical sense, we have been working on a lot of new art pieces to share with you during the upcoming summer events circuit! We have lots of new cat and dog digital images, and Shelly has been playing with scratchboard again; ravens with metal leaf accents are the latest to pop up... Emma has been playing with her beautiful Pollinators series, and I suspect the Unconventional Unicorns series may have a new friend or two... New! Raven prints with metallic leaf details The original raven image was created on scratchboard - these prints are hand altered with either gold, silver or copper leaf accents. Available in 2 formats - this is the 5x7" image matted and framed to 8x10" - $50 Because the leaf is hand applied, every one is unique and slightly different!  I'm having SO MUCH fun with scratchboard lately! The piece above is finished and prints are available for sale. "Red Panda" is part of my series "Faces I will Never See", which focuses on creatures that are critically endangered and/or live in remote areas of the planet that I will never be able to visit.   Wow! I'm super excited to see what this year will bring! Emma and I finished out 2017 with a string of art shows from mid-October until our last show December 22nd! Phheeeww! Although it was busy and a lot of work, we really enjoy shows, and met a lot of lovely people in the process! We had an end of year flurry of commissions - pet portraits in both "Classic" and "Digital" styles for me, and a large painting of a monarch butterfly for Emma. We love doing custom work and the messages after the holidays as people were gifted their art, are really heartwarming. THANK YOU! for entrusting us with your custom visions - we are always excited and honored to create art specifically for you... This week has been a time to regroup, take a deep breath, and start planning the next year. We both have several ATC series available by subscription through Patreon, including some new ones; Emma's Flower Queen Bunnies, Shelly's Tree Spirits, and a Farmed Animals series that would feature work by both of us. The popular "Digital Dogs" and "Digital Cats" will continue with new and interesting faces this year as well. I'm starting several scratchboard pieces today - So excited! True confession - I'm very good at starting new works - but my goal this year is to get better at finishing!
