The wonderful people at CatIt host an International art competition featuring our furry feline friends, and I have 3 pieces currently entered (including the scratchboard image of Naomi featured above) Last year I came in 3rd internationally and first in Canada, and with my winnings was excited to order several amazing cat trees, toys, fluffy beds and treats for our foster cats at my rescue Compassion For Paws. Yay!

​There was a solar eclipse early this morning…
it's also the lunar new year…
and a new moon…
What does the year of the Fire Horse actually mean? It’s a shift in energy – not gently, but with raw unbridled power.
Power in motion, momentum, awakening and drive are all characteristic of horses. This is the year not to whisper your dreams but to gallop towards them.
This is the year for brave decisions, bold actions, creating with confidence and passion, and for breaking out of old habits and ideas that are holding you contained.
But there is another aspect to horses – they are a herd animal. They need the companionship and support of a community - so that the new year will usher in luck, prosperity and good vibes for ourselves and everyone around us.
Horses remind us of partnership and trust, energy you can partner with, not control. A horse doesn't give away its power, it shares it and moves with you when trust is there.

This year is asking us to do the same.
Lately, the world has been overwhelming. There is so much ugliness, fear and uncertainty that it is almost unbearable. Creativity has always been an outlet for me. When life is hardest, creating gives my soul a place to rest.
Why should we take time to make art when the world is burning?
Make art precisely BECAUSE the world is burning. And because creativity is self care.
The smallest adjustments – daily doodling, 5 minutes of sketching, intentional joy worked into your day – and life feels different. Braver. More optimistic. More possibilities – maybe even some glimmers of magic. It doesn’t need to be a big change - just tiny tweaks can make all the difference.
For the past several years I have been sharing creativity mostly in personal workshops. Its time to open that up and share our collective positive energy.

​This summer was a busy one here at the Studio!
Emma and her husband Rob, had a lovely day to be married in our backyard in June.
Although the house and gardens looked nice enough, our big garage door looked a bit, ummm - tattered? Connor flew to the rescue and created this gorgeous mural - I absolutely adore it!
It’s definitely a unique art niche! If you are interested in a custom garage door of your own, let us know. Spots are filling up quickly since he can’t do outdoor work once the temperatures get too chilly…


Speaking of chilly weather coming… The holidays will be here before we know it!

Happy Spring!

Even though its the season of mud - spring always feels so optimistic to me...
We are finally (mostly?) over those cold days and finally (mostly?) done with snow!

The bunnies in Emmas house and the wild bunnies outside of the studio, all seem to feel some spring excitement in the air. I am working on some new bunny images at the moment, and am excited to reveal that I am working on an oracle/affirmation deck specifically for creative people.
And I'm fairly certain that a bunny or two will make their appearances there...

This year for the first time ever, we tapped the Maple trees in our yard, and had the experience of collecting sap and boiling it down to delicious magical syrup.

Whether you celebrate Easter, or just get out to visit the trees, whatever you do this holiday weekend, I hope it is springtime magical!
